The increasing adoption of digital health technologies, particularly mobile applications, has transformed clinical monitoring and decision-making in the management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), a condition that requires continuous insulin administration and intensive self-care. This study aims to analyze the functionalities of mobile applications designed to support T1DM self-management, comparing those recommended in the scientific literature with those effectively implemented in commercially available solutions, in order to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. This is a literature review with a descriptive approach, complemented by a practical analysis of applications selected from major app stores. A total of 21 studies and 21 applications were identified, from which 22 distinct functionalities related to self-management were mapped. The results indicate a partial alignment between theoretical recommendations and real-world implementations, with emphasis on features such as glucose logging, insulin monitoring, and carbohydrate counting. However, relevant gaps were identified regarding usability, integration with healthcare professionals, and clinical validation of these tools. It is concluded that mobile applications represent a valuable resource for supporting T1DM management, but their effectiveness depends on collaborative development involving healthcare professionals, developers, and patients, ensuring greater usability, safety, and adherence to user needs.
